When the Detroit Lions take the field on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, they will be doing so under the leadership of second-year head coach Matt Patricia.
Patricia will be looking to turn the Lions around after a disastrous 2018 campaign in which the team finished 6-10, which landed them in last place in the NFC North.

During the offseason, Patricia had Achilles surgery and he has spent the preseason in a walking boot while riding around on his four-wheeler. As far as in-game coaching, Patricia has been forced to perform his duties from behind the Lions’ bench to prevent further injury.
Patricia had hoped to be ready to go by Week 1 of the regular season but according to a report from Ian Rapoport, the Lions head coach “tentatively plans to be safe from behind the bench today.”
As Rapoport notes, the preseason was good preparation for communication purposes.
