Do we have a date on the horizon for the start of the 2020 College Basketball season?
According to a report from CBS Sports, the NCAA’s men’s and women’s oversight committees agreed Tuesday to propose November 25 as the official start of the 2020-21 season.
Talk about a happy Thanksgiving!
“It was a hard proposal and they all left [the call] saying the 25th was the date they’re going to take,” one source said.
“The proposal will eventually be sent to the Division I Council, which is scheduled to meet on Sept. 16. An approving vote by the Council on that day would make Nov. 25 college basketball’s new official opening day, but sources have stressed that flexibility in the coming 6-8 weeks will be paramount.
If the environment in the United States and college athletics changes for the worse in regard to the coronavirus pandemic, men’s and women’s basketball will have their season starts delayed as necessary.”
The report also states that a source has indicated that the Pac-12, who cancelled all athletic competition in August, could be willing to reconsider if the start date was Nov. 25 after originally stating they’d prefer an early December start date.
While plenty of additional details would still need to be worked out, does having a targeted date give you hope that we’ll see college hoops this winter?
