After Saturday’s news that Matthew Stafford has requested to be traded by the Detroit Lions, it seems like just a matter of time before he is dealt to the highest bidder.
As we speak, my guess is that there will be at least 10-12 teams who will at least contact the Lions to see what it will cost to land Stafford but maybe 5 of those teams will have what it takes to get a deal done.
One of the first thoughts that came to my mind after hearing the news is how weird it would look to see Stafford in a different uniform and how weird it would be to see him play AGAINST the Lions sometime in the future.
Could the Lions actually end up playing AGAINST Stafford in 2021?
Well, let’s look at their opponents for next season and figure out the best chance of that happening.
Looking at the Lions oppenents for 2021, I can see the San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers as teams that could make the Lions an offer.
The 49ers are clearly one of the favorites to trade for Stafford but if things change and Ben Roethlisberger ends up retiring (he is not currently planning to), the Steelers could get in on the action.
All of that being said, it looks to me like the best chance to see Matthew Stafford suit up AGAINST the Detroit Lions in 2021 is if he is traded to the San Francsico 49ers.
What do you think?
