James McCann
After a good season as the primary catcher in 2015, McCann slumped a bit in 2016. His batting average slumped to a paltry .221 last season, however, McCann hit for power with more efficiency. In 57 less at-bats in 2016, McCann hit 12 home runs (5 more than 2015) and 48 RBI (7 more than 2015). Defensively, “The McCannon” is already a force behind the dish throwing out would-be base stealers. He has also shown impressive leadership managing a starting rotation that covers both sides of the spectrum: veteran and rookie. It’s time for his offense to catch up to his defense and leadership skills and 2017 is just the year to do it. The expectations are high for the young catcher and I believe he’ll fulfill them.
