2022 Detroit Lions had youngest roster by wide margin

Heading into the 2022 NFL regular season, most believed the Detroit Lions would take a big step forward from the previous year when they won only three games. Unfortunately, the Lions got off to a 1-6 start to their season, and though they finished by winning eight of their final ten games, it was not quite enough to earn a berth in the 2022 NFL Playoffs.

How young was the 2022 Detroit Lions roster?

We knew the Lions had one of the youngest rosters heading into the 2022 season, but according to Bill Barnwell, the Lions actually had the youngest roster in the entire league, by a wide margin.

As you can see below, the Lions had the third-youngest offense (26.2) and the second-youngest defense (25.2), which combines to be the youngest overall roster in the entire NFL at just 25.7. That is 0.3 years younger than the next closet team, the Carolina Panthers.
