2. Throw the deep ball
Legion of Boom? More like Legion of vulnerable without Earl Thomas, who is out for the season after breaking his leg against Carolina in week 13. The Lions offense is built around more short, precision passing but they’ll need to work the ball downfield against the Seahawks. Stafford has the arm for it and Detroit has downfield playmakers. Combination routes and double moves to get guys in space downfield can really spread out Seattle’s defense where they’re weakest. Look for tight end Eric Ebron to use his size and speed on the deep post allowing Marvin Jones and Golden Tate more one on ones. Seattle will have to pick their poison as it will be tough to contain everyone if Detroit starts stretching the field. It can force Richard Sherman to back off his aggressive tendencies being cognizant of what’s behind him which opens up more underneath action. Earl Thomas’s injury changes the way Seattle has to defend and if Detroit commits to airing it out, they’ll have a great shot to win this game.
