1. ZIGGY ANSAH
After recording 14.5 sacks in 2015, defensive end Ezekiel ‘Ziggy’ Ansah was considered to be the next elite pass rusher and expected take his game to the next level in 2016. However, injuries have caused him to struggle for much of this season as he recorded just 2 sacks in 13 games. On the positive side, each of Ansah’s sacks were recorded in the final three games of the season, suggesting that he may be over his injuries and closer to returning to the level of play he showcased in 2015.
Ansah and the Lions’ defensive line struggled to put pressure on Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers this past Sunday, sacking him just once. When Rodgers did face pressure, he was able to easily evade defenders and scramble, finishing the night with 10 carries for 42 yards and a completion percentage of 69.2.
For the Lions to have a chance at beating Seattle, Ansah will need to play to his top potential and contain Russell Wilson. Wilson has shown that he can run the ball throughout his career, but what is promising for the Lions is that Wilson’s 2016 rushing totals are the lowest of his career (259 yards). If Ansah can create havoc on Wilson and his offensive line, the Lions will have a much better chance at a victory.
