The 2022 NFL regular season is in the books and though the Detroit Lions came up just short of making the NFL Playoffs, they did win eight of their final ten games, and they are clearly one of the top 10 teams in the league. That being said, the goal for the 2023 season will be to win the NFC North and make a run in the 2023 NFL Playoffs. Let’s take a look at 4 current Lions who could be cap casualties during the offseason.
Which 4 Detroit Lions could be cap casualties?
As it stands, the Lions are in solid shape when it comes to the salary cap, but that does not mean they will not cut some veteran players to save some money.
Here are four current Lions who may have played their final games in the Honolulu Blue and Silver, along with how much cap space the Lions would save for each cut. (via Spotrac)
- DT Michael Brockers ($10 million)
- EDGE Romeo Okwara ($7.5 million)
- G Halapoulivaati Vaitai ($6.5 million)
- DE Charles Harris ($4 million)
As it stands, I could see the Detroit Lions bringing back Vaitai if they decide that they want a veteran in that position, but there is also a chance that they draft a player to play the position in 2023.
As far as Brockers, Okwara, and Harris, I would be pretty surprised if any of those three would be back.
