It took a lot longer than we would have hoped for, but on Wednesday, general manager Bob Quinn finally made a move to help solidify the Detroit Lions defensive line by claiming Dwight Freeney off waivers.

Freeney, who is 37-years old, was placed on waivers by the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday, a day after playing for them on Monday Night Football against the Atlanta Falcons. Because the Lions play on Thanksgiving, most believed the quick turnaround would prevent the future Hall of Famer from making his debut until next week.

Just moments ago, NFL Network reporter Stacey Dales said that Lions head coach Jim Caldwell told her that Freeney will not dress for today’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.

There is no question about it that the Detroit Lions need help on the defensive line, especially when it comes to rushing the passer. Well, they may have found just what the doctor ordered.

On Wednesday, news broke the Lions had claimed veteran defensive end Dwight Freeney off waivers. Freeney was placed on waivers by the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday, despite him picking up three sacks in four games.

As soon as Lions fans started to catch wind of their team’s newest addition, Twitter exploded. Some tweeted messages of excitement and hope, while others sent messages saying Freeney is too old and washed up.

But the one tweet that really caught our attention is the one sent by Freeney himself. As you can see below, the future Hall of Famer is “completely confused” by what has transpired over the past couple of days.
