Through his first 5 games as a member of the Detroit Lions, running back Adrian Peterson has carried the ball 69 times for 285 yards. Both of those numbers lead the team, which should not come as much of a surprise when considering the role Peterson was promised before he signed his contract.

On Thursday, Peterson spoke to the media and he revealed that prior to signing with the Lions, he was told he would see carries on first and second down, with the occasional look on third down.
Adrian Peterson said his role with Lions has been what they discussed before he signed. No surprises there. Seeing carries on first and second down, with the occasional look on third down.

This is just speculation, but it seems pretty obvious that the Lions were very concerned about their running back situation with Kerryon Johnson and D'Andre Swift, which is why Peterson was promised what he was promised and eventually signed.
