Former Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders established himself as the best at his position in the professional ranks. And now, he’s being honored as being the best at the collegiate level.

Sanders was voted the greatest college football player of all time by USA Today Balloting, beating out Pittsburgh Panthers running back Tony Dorsett in the final round of voting. He also beat out Mike Singletary (Baylor), Dave Rimington (Nebraska), Keith Jackson (Washington State), Bo Jackson (Auburn), Herschel Walker (Georgia) and Charles Woodson (Michigan).
Sanders’ 1988 season at Oklahoma State earned him Unanimous All-American honors, the Heisman Trophy, the Maxwell Award, and Walter Camp Award. After coming to Detroit, Sanders was named to 10 Pro Bowls, earned the title of 1987 Offensive Rookie of the Year, earned six First-Team All-Pro honors, and won the 1997 NFL MVP.
