Major League Baseball’s draft takes place this June, and the Detroit Tigers will have plenty of options as they hold the first overall selection.
In their latest mock draft, MLB publication Baseball America believes that they know who the Tigers will take with their selection – Vanderbilt infielder Austin Martin.
Martin put up some big statistics in 2019 with a .392/.486/.604 stat line with 10 home runs.
In their previous mock draft, Martin was again projected to land in Detroit.
“Our scout is going with Martin here, which is the same No. 1 selection we made in our previous mock draft,” Baseball America writes. “While Martin could easily be selected as a shortstop when the draft arrives, he’s been handling third base so far this season for Vanderbilt. Martin tallied a pair of hits in the team’s first three games, but has a .467 on-base percentage with three walks.”
Of course, Arizona State first baseman Spencer Torkelson and Georgia righthander Emerson Hancock have also been rumored to be possible selections.
