On Saturday night, news broke that the Detroit Lions had traded Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Jared Goff and a trio of draft picks.
Not long after the news broke, a report surfaced saying Goff had already talked to Lions head coach Dan Campbell and other members of the Lions organization and he was notified that he will be the Lions starter when the 2021 season kicks off.
Now, my belief is that Lions GM Brad Holmes brought in Goff because he believes he can still be a solid NFL quarterback, and having him allows the team to build a solid roster via the draft without having to select a QB.
That being said, could Holmes have a trick up his sleeve? Could the Lions eventually flip Goff to the highest bidder?
According to a report from Peter Schrager, he has spoken to multiple teams that reached out to the Rams about Goff. Schrager added that Goff is well regarded around the league.
If there are multiple teams who are interested in Goff, it would be wise for Holmes and the Lions to at least listen to see what kind of return package they could get.
Now, if teams are interested in Goff and the Lions are willing to flip him, they would have to wait until the new league year begins in March.
I’ve spoken to multiple teams this morning who made calls TO the Rams in regards to Goff, too. This wasn’t some throw-in. The Lions wanted him. He had a market. Around NFL, Goff is regarded well. 25, multiple playoff wins, beat Brees and Wilson in their buildings in postseason.

Nation, should the Lions shop around Goff with the hopes of acquiring more draft capital?
