Dave Birkett has Detroit Lions making controversial pick in Mock Draft 2.0

We are a little over one month away from the 2021 NFL Draft and not a single person seems to have even the slightest clue as to what the Detroit Lions are on the clock with the No. 7 overall pick in the first round.

Some have the Lions taking a quarterback, others have them taking a wide receiver or offensive lineman, and a few even have them reaching and taking a cornerback or linebacker when they are on the clock at No. 7.

But Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, who is closest to the Lions of any of the local beat writers, has the team going in a different direction in the draft and it will ruffle the feathers of quite a few fans.

As you can see below, Birkett has the Lions selecting “TE” Kyle Pitts out of Florida. Of course, I put TE in quotations because he is not your typical NFL tight end.

Here is what Birkett has to say about the selection.

Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida

Oh, boy. Another tight end. Only Pitts is not your normal tight end. He is a mismatch player who can attach to the line of scrimmage or split wide. New Lions coach Dan Campbell is a former tight end who loves mismatches, so as odd as it seems, this is a good fit for the Lions.

Nation, would you like to see the Lions make this pick, or is No. 7 too high to take Pitts, regardless of what you want to label him, position-wise?

  1. If he can be a #1 wideout it would be a great pick. My first choice would be OL Rashawn Slater however. He would be plug and play right tackle for the next decade and would greatly improve our rushing game, something we have needed forever. I am not sold on our current group on that right side.
