Dear Mr. Ilitch: Thank you for loving Detroit

Dear Mr. Ilitch,

On behalf of your fans in Michigan and around the world, I would like to thank you for being the greatest owner in sports. Thanks to you, our hearts have been full of Red Wings Hockey and Tigers baseball for some time now, while our bellies have been full of pizza. You always did everything in your power to put the best product possible on the ice, on the diamond, and on our plates.

For that, we thank you.

As the owner of the Red Wings, you brought the city of Detroit four Stanley Cups and managed to get our team to the NHL Playoffs 25 seasons in a row. Since purchasing the Tigers in 1992, the team has moved into Comerica Park, hosted an MLB All-Star Game, and has played in two World Series. You have been willing to spend your money to bring a World Series title to Motown and though your efforts came up short, we truly appreciate your efforts.

For that, we thank you.

Most of all, Mr. Ilitch, we would like to thank you for your leadership in the community. Your love for Detroit was apparent from day one and it continued until your final breath. Everything you did as owner of the Red Wings and Tigers was with the fans in mind and for that we will be forever grateful.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts and may you rest in peace.

Sincerely,

Your Fans
