The Detroit Lions placed quarterback Matthew Stafford on their Reserve/COVID-19 list; he had not yet tested positive for the illness but was considered a “high-risk close contact” from a team member.
While meeting virtually with media members, head coach Matt Patricia stated that he was unable to comment on Stafford’s status for this Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings as well as the quarterback’s actual health.
Per Michael Rothstein, Patricia said that Stafford’s being moved to the COVID list didn’t impact anyone in the team’s facility, and that Stafford will still be able to participate in virtual team meetings:
Stafford will be traveling to Minnesota via private plane, but he’ll be able to suit up as long as he doesn’t test positive for the illness between now and Sunday.
However, should Stafford ultimately not play, Patricia isn’t concerned for backup Chase Daniel due to the fact that their offense fits any quarterback.
