Game Notes:
Have a day, Jose! Jose Iglesias broke out tonight going 3-4 with a single, double, 2-run home run and three runs scored. The struggling shortstop needed a night like tonight in the worst way, and he got it. Hopefully, for the Tigers nine-hole hitter it is a sign of things to come.
Overall, the Tigers offense was much better than the team who snapped a 22 inning run scoring drought last night combining for six runs on eight hits.
Starter, Daniel Norris, was typically wild but pitched into the seventh inning, surrendering only two runs (one earned) as he locked horns with Charlie Morton who, himself, was very effective. Each starter earned a no-decision as they both kept each lineup at bay. And the game was decided by the bullpens. Shane Greene sat down all five hitters he faced as new closer, Justin Wilson, shut the door in a non-save situation.
Looking Ahead:
The schedule over the last week has not been easy for the Tigers. Playing Sunday night against the Rangers, they then arrived in Houston around 5 a.m., play a night game Thursday night, then travel to Chicago for a four-game series played in three days — a natural doubleheader being played Friday. However, before that, they will look to Justin Verlander to earn a series split with the Astros.
