GOTTA SEE IT: MSU women’s hoops star Tori Jankoska breaks multiple school records

History was made in a big way at the Breslin Center in East Lansing on Tuesday. The Michigan State women’s hoops team picked up a huge 94-75 blowout win over No. 11 Ohio State to improve their record to 13-4 on the season, on pace for another appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

But it was the game within the game that stole the headlines. MSU senior guard Tori Jankoska set not one, but two school records in the game on Tuesday.

The 42-point outburst toppled a single-game record in MSU women’s hoops history set back in 1999 by Maxann Reese. And it was just your average three-point field goal in the corner that put her atop the all-time scoring list in MSU history, surpassing Aerial Powers who set the all-time total a year ago. Powers, a former Detroit Country Day star, was the 5th overall pick of the Dallas Wings in the 2016 WNBA Draft.

With her 42 points last night, that puts her career total at 1,853 points with 12 games to go in the regular season, plus the Big Ten and the NCAA Tournament, should MSU get there.

The former Freeland High School star Jankoska is leading MSU in scoring averaging 22.8 points per game, the only Spartan averaging double-figures. That per game total is also good for 2nd in the Big Ten behind Ohio State’s Kelsey Mitchell. Her 89.4 percent clip at the free throw line is also 2nd in the conference and she’s 5th in assists (5.1). She leads all Big Ten players in minutes played per game (35.3)

The Lady Spartans will play their next game on the road this Saturday, January 14 against Rutgers. The next home game for MSU and Jankoska is Sunday, January 22 against Purdue.
