Jim Harbaugh gives health updates on multiple injured Wolverines

As the Michigan Wolverines move further and further into their season, it seems like they’re adding a new injured player to the list every week. This stood true on Saturday in their 42-21 victory over Maryland, when defensive lineman Michael Dwumfour suffered a foot injury and had to be carted off the field.

Despite this fact, the Wolverines have been rolling this season, and they may be getting some key players back sooner rather than later. Head coach Jim Harbaugh talked to reporters on Monday to give an update on the health of the team. Of all injured players, Dwumfour’s looked to be most serious, but Harbaugh is optimistic about it.

“We think (the status) is better than what it looked,” Harbaugh told reporters.

He also gave a quick update on lineman Rashan Gary, who’s been playing through a joint issue to this point. Harbaugh thought it best to sit this last game out though, and didn’t have much to say on his status for this week.

“He’s had a bit of an AC (joint issue),” Harbaugh said of Gary on Saturday. “He’s been playing through it. I thought it wise to not let him play this week.”

“Still evaluating,” Harbaugh said. “We’ll see. We haven’t practiced yet this week. No status report to update.”

Meanwhile, Wolverines fans were hopeful for a return from Tarik Black after showing up to the stadium on Saturday without a boot on. He also pulled some antics on Twitter that had fans curious and optimistic. But Harbaugh also remains vague on a timetable for his return.

“He continues to progress nicely,” Harbaugh said. “Same type (of injury), different foot. Talk to the experts. I’m hopeful, we’re going to see today. He’s progressing. Hopefully better today than yesterday, hopefully, better tomorrow than today.”

In addition, Harbaugh is optimistic for a short-term return for Chris Evans and Carlo Kemp, the latter of whom left Saturday’s game with an apparent injury.
