Steve Yzerman is returning home and according to former Detroit Red Wing Chris Chelios, the timing is perfect.

From MLive:
“Yzie brings instant credibility, and that’s not taking anything away from Kenny,” Chelios told MLive. “Sometimes it’s a player you acquire in the draft or a trade that gives you that boost. Yzie, from up in the press box, will have that effect. He speaks with conviction. The players will want to play for him. It’s going to be great.
“It didn’t take him long to build that team in Tampa. His work ethic as a GM was the same as a player. He’s going to be chomping at the bit to get the team ready for training camp. … The timing is perfect. He’s ready to take on the new challenge and I’m sure he’s looking forward to it.”
“The one thing he did say when he was (in Detroit) was he felt like he had more to bring in management,” Chelios said. “He had all the respect in the world for Kenny. He wasn’t going to step on anybody’s toes. He felt it was time to move on and get some experience. Obviously, it worked out for the best for him. He went to Tampa and had a lot of success, built a great team.”
“Yzie loves the game,” Chelios said. “He travels all over. Some of the travel, I couldn’t believe he would do it, going out of his way to go see games anywhere, minor league, Europe. It’s crazy, his work ethic, and he’s good at it, that’s the bottom line.”
If Chelios is right, the Detroit Red Wings and their fans are in for a lot of fun (and a lot of winning).
