The Detroit Red Wings will be without defenseman Jonathan Ericsson for up to 2 months after he suffered a fractured wrist in Thursday night’s 6-3 loss to the Washington Capitals. Reports unconfirmed by the team say he could be out 6-8 weeks.

The injury occurred when Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom hit Ericsson at an awkward angle behind the net. You can watch the hit here.
With about 2 months left in the regular season and the Red Wings likely needing a miracle to make the playoffs, Jonathan Ericsson’s season may very well be over if the injury indeed takes 8 weeks to heal.
