The Detroit Lions will have plenty of new faces on the defense in 2020, including new defensive coordinator, Cory Undlin.
Undlin hopes to help turn around a Lions defense what was extremely bad during a 2019 season that saw the team finish with a 3-12-1 record.
With the No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Lions selected CB Jeff Okudah out of Ohio State. The hope is that Okudah can come in and quickly fill the shoes of Pro Bowl CB Darius Slay, who was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles during the offseason.
On Wednesday, Undlin spoke to the media via a video conference call and he had nothing both great things to say about Ukudah.
“Jeff is driven, like few men I’ve been around in this profession.”
“I’ve been nothing but impressed with him since day one,” Undlin said. “You know, with this Zoom thing, I’ve spent a lot of time with Jeff. I think the people in Detroit and Lions fans are going to really, really like him not only as a player but as a person. Jeff is driven, like few men I’ve been around in this profession.”
Undlin added that Okudah is so driven that it’s hard to get his mind off of football.
“The guy is nonstop, to the point where it’s like, ‘Jeff, can we talk about something … can we not talk about football for like five minutes? Can we talk about something else? Do you do anything else?’ That’s how he’s wired,” Undlin commented.
Now we have even more of a reason to be excited about Jeff Okudah!
