On Sunday, Darrell Bevell got his first chance to take the field as head coach (technically, interim head coach) of an NFL team when he led the Detroit Lions into Soldier field to take on the Chicago Bears.
When all was said and done, Bevell had also won his first game as an NFL head coach as the Lions stormed back to beat the Bears 34-30 to move to 5-7 on the season.
As soon as it was obvious that the game was in hand, you could see the joy in Bevell’s eyes but the excitement of his players explained just how much they wanted to win for their new coach.
You can bet that Bevell’s phone was blowing up after the win with congratulatory texts and voicemails but not a single one, according to Bevell was from former Lions’ head coach, Matt Patricia.
On victory Monday, Bevell met with the media, and when asked if Patricia sent a congratulatory text, his answer was straight-forward.
“I did not,” Bevell responded.
Darrell Bevell was asked if he got a congratulatory text or anything from Matt Patricia.
"I did not."

Now, to give Patricia a bit of a break, he was just fired a little over a week ago, which has to be a very difficult situation to deal with.
That being said, the call should have been made and it shows poor form by Patricia.
