When Jim Harbaugh was hired as head coach at the University of Michigan, he had it put in his contract that he would have a certain amount of money to pay his assistant coaches. Now, according to Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel, the assistant coach salary pool is about to increase.

Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel did not give an exact number Saturday during a conversation before the men's basketball game against Illinois, but he did confirm that the assistant salary pool is on the rise. And he also said he supported the decision to push both coordinator salaries to the seven-figure mark.
“In the sense of wanting to keep people here for them, to know their value and for us to keep long-term stability on the staff, this was an investment we made,” Manuel said. “I'm very proud Jim was able to do that with the staff and I'm glad we can support it.”
