Michigan State hoops landed another big future recruit on Friday, and their highest-rated commit thus far for the Class of 2018. 4-star power forward Marcus Bingham Jr. out of Catholic Central High School in Grand Rapids announced his pledge to the Spartans.

Bingham (6-10, 195 pounds) is listed as the No. 2 prospect in the state of Michigan and a top-25 power forward in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. The Catholic Central product had been looked at hard by various big-name programs in the greater midwest region, including fellow Big Ten programs Purdue and Ohio State.

The commitment from Bingham comes just one day after the state’s top hoops prep star Brandon Johns — from East Lansing High School — announced his commitment to the University of Michigan.
Amazingly, Bingham has had barely two years of varsity basketball experience. He played his sophomore season across town at Ottawa Hills High School in the Grand Rapids area before transferring to Catholic Central this past season. Despite playing in only half of the 2016-17 season due to transfer rules, Bingham still earned All-State honorable mention honors.
Two years later and eight inches taller, Bingham is now a 4-star prospect.

2018 CLASS COUNTER: 4
With the addition of Bingham, Michigan State now has four pledges from the Class of 2018, all of whom are of the 4-star variety and hail from across the Mitten. It’s a class that now ranks tops in the Big Ten and 2nd in the country, behind only — you guessed it — Arkansas (yes… Arkansas).
Bingham is the second player in the last two weeks to commit to the Spartans. Back on June 20, Belleville High School small forward Gabe Brown announced his commitment to MSU. That now gives Michigan State four of the top six prep prospects from the state of Michigan.
