One potential free agent Detroit Lions fans should pay close attention to on Sunday

The Detroit Lions have a dilemma. Well, to be fair, they have quite a few dilemmas but we cannot tackle them all at one time.

That being said, as we sit here on January 10, the Lions really don’t know who their wide receivers will be by the time the 2020 season rolls around. Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones Jr., and Danny Amendola are all set to become free agents and the Lions will have some important decisions to make.

Personally, I think Jones Jr. will command too much money (considering his age) and will be playing elsewhere in 2021, while Amendola will either retire (my guess) or re-sign for $4 million or so to be the Lions No. 3 receiver. As far as Golladay goes, I think he is a top 12 or so receiver in the league who wants to be paid like a top 5 receiver and that does not sit well with me. The Lions will probably use the franchise tag on Golladay to keep him around for one more season but my belief is to never overpay for a wide receiver and that is exactly what they would be doing by keeping him around.

Even if the Lions bring back both Golladay and Amendola, they will still need a No. 2 caliber receiver, preferably one who could emerge as a No. 1 receiver in the near future if Golladay is kicked to the curb after the 2021 season.

The best candidate to fill the Lions No. 2 receiver slot in 2021 just so happens to be playing on Sunday afternoon during the Wild-Card matchup between the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens.

That player? Corey Davis.

Davis, who turns 26 on Monday, has been extremely solid for the Titans in 2020, catching 65 passes for 984 yards and five touchdowns. The Titans originally selected the former Western Michigan Bronco with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, and though he has not exactly lived up to the spot he was picked, he has shown flashes of brilliance.

Now, the big question is, how much will Davis demand if he hits the open market?

My guess is that he will look to sign a 4-year contract in the range of $36-42 million per season.

If the Lions can get him to sign for the low end of that, I would not be mad.
