Player to Watch: Dominik Kubalik – Red Wings as they aim for victory before All-Star break

The Detroit Red Wings will play the second half of a back-to-back on the road against the New York Islanders tonight, with puck drop set for 7:00 PM. This is the Wings’ second matchup against the Islanders this year. The Red Wings won the first matchup on opening night 3-0 in Detroit.

Tonight’s Red Wings player to watch: Dominik Kubalik

Kubalik is a huge addition to the Wings with his young age. The young forward has fit in well with Detroit. He has played in 249 career games, including 202 games for the Chicago Blackhawks and 47 games for the Detroit Red Wings.

In the last five games, Kubalik has registered three points, coming on a goal and two assists. This season he ranks second on the team in points with 34 coming on 14 goals and 20 assists, one of the team leaders in goals scored.

This season he has been rotated between all four lines, for this one, he is projected to be skating with Oskar Sundqvist and Pius Suter on the fourth line.  

Kubalik plays on the second line of the power-play unit along with Robby Fabbri, Andrew Copp, David Perron, and Filip Hronek.

In his career against the Islanders, Kubalik has only played in four games scoring two goals and one assist for three points. In the earlier matchup this season against the Islanders, he was all over the score sheet leading the Wings to victory, scoring a goal and an assist.

The Red Wings have the hardest remaining schedule out of any team in the league, but right now, they are riding a two-game winning streak heading into tonight’s matchup against the Islanders. This is a very winnable game and a game the Wings must win, as the Islanders are one point ahead of the Red Wings in the Eastern Conference standings.
