Potential Red Wings’ target Torey Krug’s latest comments may scare away Steve Yzerman

For the Detroit Red Wings, it has (technically) been the offseason for quite some time now and there has been quite a bit of speculation that Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug could be a player GM Steve Yzerman has his eye on signing following the conclusion of the season.

Krug, who is a native of Livonia, MI, is 29 years old and is coming off a regular-season where he scored nine goals and dished out 40 assists in 61 games. He is a solid defenseman who would look great in a Red Wings sweater if a deal could be reached.

But a recent comment by Krug may be enough to scare Yzerman and the Red Wings away (if they were ever interested in the first place).

Krug was recently asked about taking a one-year deal and he made it clear that he is looking for a long-term contract.

“I’m very opposed to that. I’ve bet on myself and I’ve taken shorter-term deals and less amount of money my whole career now, so this is my time in terms of my value at its peak,” he said.

Krug is still playing at a high-level but would signing him to a long-term deal be the right move for Yzerman to make for a team that is still rebuilding? As much as I would love to see Krug come home, his demands may be too much.
