The Detroit Red Wings will have a chance to add a major piece of their rebuild tomorrow night when they select 4th overall in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
Despite not getting the 1st overall pick, they’ll still have the opportunity to bring aboard a talented player.

“As far as the draft order, I have no idea what is going to happen before us,” said Yzerman. “At the 4th pick, we’re pretty excited, regardless how it plays out.”
Tomorrow’s Draft will be conducted entirely in virtual format thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic rather than at the originally scheduled location at Bell Centre, home of the Montreal Canadiens.
“I kind of like this (virtual) format. I think it’s going to work really well,” Yzerman said. “You do not have the ability to quickly catch the eye of a general manager, but we’ve got multiple phone lines. You can get a lot done quickly. We’re pretty well-organized and prepared and ready to go for Tuesday evening.”
Among the potential draftees Detroit could ultimately decide on include center Cole Perfetti, winger Lucas Raymond, defenseman Jamie Drysdale or winger Alexander Holtz.
Whomever they select, Yzerman anticipates being able to take a big step forward with the team rebuild.
“We’re going to get a great prospect. How good of a player he becomes? Time will tell,” Yzerman said. “For myself, it’s my second year as general manager, we want to take a step forward and I’m anxious to continue with our rebuilding of our team.”
