They officially selected 6’1, 185 lb. defenseman Donovan Sebrango from the OHL’s Kitchener Rangers.
A native of Kingston, Ontario, Sebrango appeared in 56 games for the Rangers, scoring six goals with 24 assists and 33 PIM.
His scouting report via Elite Prospects:
“Can spin against pressure, work his inside edges on the blue line, and generally shows as nimble in small-ice situations. He’s not afraid to use the centre of the ice to effectively transition up-ice. Sebrango was decisive, took the right angles, and won puck battles on defensive zone retrievals.”

Afterwards, they opted for more defensive help with the No. 70 overall pick, selecting Finnish defenseman Eemil Viro:
Scouting report:
“Viro doesn’t hesitate to engage the body in the defensive zone. He has good speed, strong mobility, and he can close gaps quickly. He can skate well, plays bigger than his size, and has proven able against men at an age when most are figuring out how to excel against juniors.”

Red Wings select Theodor Niederbach with 51st overall pick
Make it three for three!
The Detroit Red Wings selected their third native Swede in the 2020 NHL Draft, taking center Theodor Niederbach with the 51st overall draft pick that they acquired in a trade from the Los Angeles Kings earlier in the afternoon.
The native of Ornskoldsvik played 40 games with Frolunda JR of the Swedish Junior League, scoring 15 goals with 33 assists. He was tied for 2nd in points (48) among all U18 Swedish JR players during the 2019-20 season.
Per Elite Prospects:
“He maintains a detailed mental map of the ice that allows quick decisions and a heightened read on incoming pressure. Defensively, he maintains an above-the-puck posture and suffocates opposition puck-carriers. He’s so dialed in off the puck, capable of making the right reads and knowing when he can switch from his man and give his teammate support.”
