The Detroit Red Wings made a minor trade on Thursday, sending forward prospect Amadeus Lombardi to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for the No. 108 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.

Ironically, Detroit used the No. 113 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft to select Lombardi. Four years later, general manager Steve Yzerman has essentially recouped a similar asset, acquiring another fourth round selection just before this weekend’s draft.

A Change of Scenery for Lombardi

Lombardi, 22, spent the past three seasons with the Grand Rapids Griffins after a standout junior career with the Flint Firebirds.

After breaking out with 102 points in 67 games during the 2022-23 OHL season, Lombardi showed flashes of offensive ability in the American Hockey League. He totaled 108 points in 161 career games with Grand Rapids, including 42 points in 47 games during the 2025-26 campaign. Injuries slowed his development at times, but he remained one of Detroit’s more intriguing offensive prospects.

Red Wings Add Another Draft Pick

For the Red Wings, the move adds another selection ahead of the 2026 NHL Draft as Yzerman continues to stockpile assets.

Detroit now owns the Devils’ fourth round pick at No. 108 overall, giving the organization another opportunity to add to its prospect pipeline.

While Lombardi gets a fresh start with New Jersey, the Red Wings will hope their newest draft selection eventually develops into another valuable piece of the franchise’s future.
