When Matt Patricia took over as head coach of the Detroit Lions prior to the start of the 2018 season, the hope was that he would push a team that was 9-7 in 2017 over the hump. Unfortunately, that is not what happened as the Lions took a few steps back as they finished the 2018 campaign with a 6-10 record.
But it was more than losing games that Patricia got wrong as some players were not big fans (to put it nicely) of how he treated them.
In fact, some players reportedly celebrated getting away from Patricia at the end of the 2018 season by drinking mimosas in the locker room.
From Bleacher Report:
One player’s agent had sent him champagne for a Christmas gift, and he had kept it in his locker, waiting for the right moment to uncork the celebration. Saying goodbye to Patricia, at least until OTAs, seemed like just the reason to party. Before the Lions’ last team meeting, mid-morning, a group of 10 to 15 players took orange juice from the cafeteria and mixed it with the champagne to make mimosas.
To be fair, Patricia has reportedly made an effort to do a better job of relating to his players and treating them better and his players appreciate it.
Unfortunately, none of what Patricia has been doing has resulted in wins and before long, there will be a lot of fans who will be celebrating his firing by drinking a lot more than mimosas!
