The Red Wings are living up to Ken Holland’s “less is more exciting” vision

The Detroit Red Wings power play is an embarrassment. Dead last in the NHL. 30th out of 30 teams.

General manager Ken Holland said after last season that “less can be more exciting” and “if you expect Cups, you’re in the wrong league”.

The team he’s in charge of ensuring the success of has sure lived up to that mantra.

Not only is every other team in the NHL better than they are with the man-advantage, but Detroit hasn’t connected on the power play during a road game since mid-October. Yes, you read that correctly. The Red Wings haven’t scored with the man advantage on the road since October 19th in New York. They brought in new coaching this year to help with their special teams, which also struggled last season.

It’s January, and Detroit’s power play is dead last in the NHL. Less can be more exciting!

For some reason, coach Jeff Blashill insists on trotting out Riley Sheahan when the opposition is in the penalty box. Sheahan has scored a grand total of zero goals all season.

Less can be more exciting!

Gustav Nyquist has four goals in 37 games played. The Red Wings have one player in the top 100 in NHL scoring.

Less can be more exciting!

The Red Wings are looking up at the Maple Leafs in the standings by six points.

Less can be more exciting!

Ken Holland, thanks for your time here. But after your unforgivable press conference before the season, it became officially clear you’re no longer the right man for running this franchise. It’s time to let someone who views anything short of winning the Stanley Cup as a failure to run things.
