ON THIS DAY: Gordie Howe eclipses 50 points in a season for 21st time [VIDEO]

The late Detroit Red Wings legend Gordie Howe has countless milestones to his name. February 21 marks the 47th anniversary of yet another record that he set.

Howe finished the season with 31 goals and 40 assists in 76 games played. He ultimately finished with 22 such seasons of at least 50 points accumulated, tied with Ron Francis for the most in NHL history.

He retired from professional hockey a four-time Stanley Cup champion, having won the Hart Trophy six times as the league’s most valuable player, as well as the Art Ross Trophy six times as the leading scorer. Add all of that to the countless NHL records and accomplishments he achieved in his playing career.

Howe passed away on June 10 last year at the age of 88. Let’s take another look back at some of his many highlights.
