The bad news is that the Detroit Lions lost their first game of the season this past Sunday. The good news is that the loss was against the Kansas City Chiefs, who are one of the best teams in the NFL.

Now the Lions get a week off, which could be just what the doctor ordered as Matthew Stafford is dealing with a hip issue and other Lions players are too dealing with injuries.
Following their Week 5 bye, the Lions will head to Green Bay to take on the Packers on Monday Night Football, followed by home games against the Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants.
So, where will the Lions sit after Week 8 is in the books? It’s time to find out!
Week 6 – @ Green Bay Packers

In my opinion, the Lions matchup against the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football will be much more important than the game against the Chiefs.
The reason being, the Packers are currently 3-1 and sit in first place in the NFC North.
If the Lions want to win a division title, they will have to at least earn a split against the Packers.
That being said, defeating the Packers on Monday Night Football, even coming off a bye week, will be too much for the Lions to handle.

Week 7 – Vs. Minnesota Vikings

Through their first four games, the Vikings have been a difficult team to get a handle on but you can bet they will be ready to roll when the come into Ford Field to take on the Lions.
If the Lions play as they did in their first three games, it will be VERY difficult to beat the Vikings but if they play as they did against the Chiefs, which I believe they will, there is no question in my mind that they beat the Vikings.
This will be a MUST WIN game for the Lions if they want to stay in the NFC North race and I believe they will get the job done.

Week 8 – Vs. New York Giants

Looking ahead to Week 8, the big question is, will Giants RB Saquon Barkley be back from his ankle injury. As we speak, Barkley seems to think he will return sooner than expected, but time will tell as the weeks go by.
That being said, I fully expect the Lions rushing defense to get their act together by Week 8 and for Damon Harrison to start playing like he is capable. If that happens, I cannot foresee the Giants beating the Lions at Ford Field.
Matthew Stafford and the Lions offense have a field day in this one.
