With double digit sacks, Romeo Okwara has set himself up for big pay day

Detroit Lions defensive end Romeo Okwara has made several persuasive arguments as to why his wallet should get much heavier net season, and this afternoon has been no exception.

With his 10th sack of the season, he’s now set himself in 5th place in franchise history:

The Lions will be undergoing an offseason of change, with several changes having already been made in the form of coaching and player personnel. Okwara, who first arrived in the Motor City in 2018 off the waiver wire, has put himself in line for a hefty payday.

The question is, will the TBD incoming Lions general manager agree? Right now, Okwara is earning a modest $2.75 million per year. The top players in the NFL at his position are pulling in as much as six times that amount.

Last month, The Detroit News had this to say:

“Okwara has set himself up for a hefty pay raise with a breakout season. Not only does he have a career-high nine sacks, he’s been one of the most productive edge rushers at generating pressure this season, affecting the quarterback on nearly 50 other snaps.”

Do you believe that Okwara will find himself wearing the Honolulu Blue in NFL game play beyond this afternoon?
