Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg has opted out of his contract he signed in 2016 that had four years and $100 million remaining. He posted a career high 18 wins and led the National League with 209 innings pitched.
Of course, he's now in the history books as having led the Nationals to their first ever championship.
Former Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer famously spurned the team offer and signed with Washington in 2015. Tiger GM Al Avila could make a huge splash with the signing of Strasburg – but would be be allowed to pursue him by team owner Chris Ilitch?
