With the NFL’s Washington franchise making it official that they are dropping the “Redskins” nickname, there has been plenty of discussions about which other professional franchises should also consider changing their nicknames. Some of those teams include the Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Chiefs, Chicago Blackhawks, and Atlanta Braves.
But in addition to professional teams, there has also been chatter about some colleges and even some high school teams making a change in a move of respect to indigenous people who feel disrespected.
In a piece published on Sunday in the Detroit Free Press, Evan Petzold posted the 43 Michigan high schools that currently use nicknames that some Native Americans find offensive.

BLACKHAWKS (4): Bloomfield Hills, Fennville, Ortonville Brandon, Leslie

CHIEFS (6): Canton, Capac, Cheboygan, New Boston Huron, Okemos, White Pigeon
CHIEFTAINS (2): Dowagiac, Utica
CHIPPEWAS (1): Manistee
ESKYMOS (1): Escanaba
HURONS (1): Rogers City
INDIANS (8): Athens, Chesaning, Hartford, Newberry, Saugatuck, Tecumseh, Tekonsha, White Cloud
MOHAWKS (1): Morley Stanwood
REDMEN (1): Marquette
