The Detroit Lions finished the 2016 season with a 9-7 record and a berth in the NFL Playoffs, where they fell to the Seattle Seahawks 26-6. If we learned one thing about the Lions this season it is that they have plenty of room for improvement across the board. Whether it’s the solidifying the defensive line, offensive line, linebackers unit, or the secondary, Lions GM Bob Quinn definitely has his work cut out for him if he wants to build this team into a Super Bowl contender.
As we all know, one of the easiest ways to build a roster is by having solid drafts, year after year. Quinn’s 2016 draft was impressive as multiple players he selected were able to make an immediate impact on the Lions in 2016. But it cannot end there. The 2017 NFL Draft WILL go down as one of the most important drafts in team history and it all begins for the Lions with the 21st pick in the 1st Round.
If you happened to read my “Perfect Detroit Lions 2017 NFL Mock Draft: Every Pick Revealed Vol. 2,” you know how important I believe it is for the Lions improve their defense. In fact, selecting a position on the offensive side of the ball in the first round (unless the top offensive lineman literally drops into their lap) may cause me do jump off a cliff!
That being said, here is a list of 5 players the Detroit Lions must consider drafting in the 1st Round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
*Note 1: The players on this list are players who I believe could still be around when the Lions select at No. 21.
