The Detroit Red Wings have had setback after setback on their blue line since before the season even started. They were down so many veteran defenseman that 5 rookies were able to make their NHL debuts to start the season. (Not all on defense.) Now they’ll be without rookie Dennis Cholowski for at least tomorrow’s game, possibly Saturday as well.
Cholowski out tomorrow with an upper-body injury, per Blashill.

Trevor Daley, who took a knee to the head against the Los Angeles Kings, is also ruled out for at least the next two games. Jonathan Ericsson will at least miss Thursday’s game, but hasn’t been ruled out for Saturday. Additionally, some good news has finally graced the back end.
#RedWings Blashill said Cholowski (upper body injury) out tomorrow and likely Saturday too. Kronwall expected to make season debut tomorrow. Ericsson and Daley expected out at least next two games.

With Cholowski out hurt, this allows defense corps leader Niklas Kronwall to make his season debut. He’s expected to start tomorrow when the Red Wings face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs. While the defense has looked quick and spunky, the veteran presence of Kronwall will be a welcome addition to a blue line lacking experience.

Yeah, that’s right, I said it.
For years now, basically for as long as Jimmy Howard has been starting goaltender for the Detroit Red Wings, we’ve heard it after almost every loss. Heard it, read it, debated it, and gotten tired of it. There’s always a handful in the crowd.
“Thanks, Howard! Get rid of him already! Garbage goaltender!”
