Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman and Grosse Pointe, MI-native Zach Werenski will head into tonight’s game against the Detroit Red Wings with mixed emotions.
Of course, he plays for the opposition, so naturally he wants two points against Detroit. But as someone who grew up watching games at Joe Louis Arena and dreaming of playing there one day, he appreciates the fact that this will be the last opportunity to skate on the historic ice, as the Red Wings will be moving to the new Little Caesars Arena this fall.
Werenski penned a tribute letter titled “A Letter to the Joe”, and it is a fantastic read. He even has a special request for a special souvenir.
Thanks for the memories, Joe Louis Arena. #FarewellToTheJoe https://t.co/hbcMUmrB48
