Brad Holmes talks about scenario in which Detroit Lions may have kept Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones Jr.

The Detroit Lions wide receiver corp looks much different right now than it did a year ago as Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones Jr., and even Danny Amendola are no longer with the team. Instead, the Lions now have Tyrell Williams, Breshad Perriman, and rookie, Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Instead of signing an extension with the Lions (probably not even on the table after the Matthew Stafford trade), Golladay signed a mega-deal with the New York Giants, while Jones Jr. is now with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

But according to Lions new GM Brad Holmes, things could look much different (or the same as they did) had Stafford not asked to be traded.

From Detroit Free Press:

“Everybody talked about the wide receiver,” Holmes said. “When you have the quarterback that has the rapport with all the receivers, how different would it have been, some of those decisions have been? Would it have been, like, ‘All right, Matt’s telling us, hey look, you got to keep this guy,’ where, because he requested the trade and it went through, now it’s kind of like, ‘All right, we kind of set on our own journey.’”

Personally, I think Holmes is smart enough that even if Stafford was still around, he would have moved on from Golladay as smart GMs do not overpay for a wide receiver. But we may never know!
