BREAKING: Detroit Lions sign free agent offensive lineman, add safety to practice squad

On Tuesday, the Detroit Lions announced they had waived cornerback Dee Virgin, which freed up a spot on their 53-man roster

A day later, the Lions revealed that they had signed offensive lineman Andrew Donnal as a corresponding move.

From Detroit Lions:

Donnal returns to the club after originally being claimed off waivers via the Baltimore Ravens on September 2. Prior to Detroit, Donnal played six games for Baltimore in 2017. He began his professional career with the Los Angeles Rams (2015-16) after joining the team as a fourth-round selection (119th overall) in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Iowa. He has appeared in 27 career games (six starts).

In addition to the Donnal signing, the Lions also signed safety Rolan Milligan to the practice squad

Milligan returns to Detroit after beginning the season on the practice squad. He spent time on the Lions’ active roster and practice squad in 2017 after entering the League in 2016 as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Dallas Cowboys out of the University of Toledo.

WHOA! Jim Harbaugh absolutely destroys referees for terrible holding call

On Saturday, Michigan stormed back from 17 down on the road to defeat the Northwestern Wildcats.

During the fourth quarter, with the Wolverines trailing 17-13, quarterback Shea Patterson broke off a 20-yard run that was brought back because of one of the worst holding calls you will ever see. On the play, Michigan running back Karan Higdon was called for holding after he was tackled by a Northwestern defender who thought Higdon had the ball.

Fox Sports announcer Joe Klatt described the play as “the holding call from Mars” and he was on the money with that analysis.

Following the game, Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh was asked about the holding penalty and at first, he tried to direct all questions regarding the play to UM athletic director, Warde Manuel. Harbaugh would then go into a bit of detail, eventually calling it a “phantom call.”
