The Detroit Tigers are in the midst of a rebuilding effort after a decade of exciting baseball. But general manager Al Avila hasn’t exactly endeared himself to the fan base during his tenure on the job.

And the latest report from CBS Sports won’t do much to alleviate those concerns. They currently have the Tigers ranked No. 9 out of ten currently rebuilding squads. They’re ahead of only the Baltimore Orioles, while lagging behind the Padres, White Sox, Blue Jays, Rangers, Mariners, Marlins, Pirates and Royals.

“The Tigers can at least boast that PECOTA sees them winning more games than the Royals. They might end up with the better haul of young arms, too. Casey Mize was the No. 1 pick in the 2018 draft for a reason, and he should reach the majors this season (if there is one) alongside Matt Manning and Tarik Skubal. Those three will go a long way in reshaping the watchability of the Tigers. Unfortunately, the system is light on hitters outside of Riley Greene and Isaac Paredes, and the Tigers have only so many more chips to cash in at the big-league level.”
Detroit’s 47-114 record in 2019 was their worst output since the disastrous 2003 campaign, and they’ve lost at least 98 games each of the last three years.
