Dear Detroit Tigers,
Heading into the 2018 season, us fans knew it was highly unlikely that we would see a winning team. In fact, many of us wondered if we would lead the league in losses. But regardless of what was about to happen, whether you won or lost, we supported you. Sure, it was tough to make it out to as many games as usual, but trust me when I say that we had your back from afar.
Looking forward to 2019, all signs point to another long season, at least in terms of wins and losses, but that is expected in a rebuild. We know there is a process to get back to a championship-caliber team and we are willing to be patient now because we believe there will be amazing celebrations down the road.
Though we promise to be patient when it comes to the product on the field, we have one request that would instantly make the 2019 season and beyond a little better.
On Saturday, you held an epic celebration at Comerica Park to honor the 1968 World Championship team and you absolutely nailed it. From the player introductions to the guest speakers, to having the current Tigers’ players pass out replica World Series trophies to the ’68 legends, it was absolute perfection.
But what may have been the best part of the night was watching the 2018 Tigers wear the throwback ’68 jerseys. Those jerseys are amazing and it is time to bring them back for good.
On behalf of Tigers’ fans everywhere, we request the organization adopt the ’68 jersey as the team’s permanent road jersey moving forward. The Detroit Tigers would then have the best home and road jersey in Major League Baseball.
Though we will support you no matter what you decide, we really hope you take this request seriously. After all, the 1968 team was always the favorite of Mike Ilitch, so we think he would love the decision too.
Always A Tiger,
Detroit Tigers Fans
PS – Just so you know we are not the only ones to want this change, here are some tweets to back us up!
