It sure has been a long, eventful offseason for the Detroit Lions. Not only did they hire a new head coach in Matt Patricia but Lions’ GM Bob Quinn has been working tirelessly to solidify the 53-man roster before the start of the 2018 regular season.
As we know, the 53-man roster is always fluid and you can be sure there will be changes as the season goes on.
With their Week 1 matchup against the New York Jets less than a week away, the Detroit Lions have released their initial depth chart.
“First unofficial Lions depth chart — in the team’s weekly release — offers no real surprises. Quandre Diggs as the starting SS. Ameer Abdullah KR; Jamal Agnew PR.”

Here is a look at the offensive depth chart and as you can see, there really are not any surprises. To be honest, the only piece interesting is that Luke Wilson is listed as the No.1 tight end despite struggling in training camp. Rookie Kerryon Johnson is currently listed behind Theo Riddick on the chart.
As far as the defense goes, the first thing that jumps out is that Sylvester Williams is listed as a starting defensive tackle while A’Shawn Robinson, who has been disappointing in training camp, is 2nd string. In addition, despite some thinking that he was in jeopardy of being cut, Kerry Hyder is listed as a starting defensive end, along with Ezekiel Ansah.
It is also worth noting that Ameer Abdullah is currently listed as the No.1 kick returner while Jamal Agnew will handle the punt return duties to start the season.
“Ricky Jean Francois and Sylvester Williams are listed as Lions’ starting defensive tackles on first depth chart of season. A’Shawn Robinson demoted to second team. Ameer Abdullah is the starting kick returner. No real surprises.”
