The Detroit Pistons (2-2) defeated the Indiana Pacers (0-3) for the second time this season 96-94. The Pacers kept it close after erasing a 12 point deficit and were able to take the lead for the first time late in the fourth quarter 90-91 with 2:53 left to play. Detroit was able to finish the Pacers off with a couple of key defensive stops and a late free-throw from Luke Kennard.
Andre Drummond rose to the occasion tonight with 18 points, 18 rebounds and two blocks. Drummond is in the midst of a contract year and he's not shy about being motivated by that. Drummond will be looking for a max contract once the season is over. Luke Kennard joined Andre Drummond in the starting lineup for the first time this season replacing Bruce Brown Jr. and helped with 14 points, three rebounds, and four assists. Derrick Rose finally cooled off tonight but scored a key basket late in the fourth quarter to help the Pistons win and finished with 10 points and six assists.
Christian Wood had a great game as well with 19 points, 12 rebounds and a block off the bench. He was also able to contribute three three-pointers tonight as well, showing off his versatility. Christian Wood was able to beat out Joe Johnson for the final roster spot during the preseason and had his first good game in the regular season since joining Detroit.
Blake Griffin is still nursing a hamstring injury but is expected to make his return during the first week of November.
For Indiana, it was Domantas Sabonis leading the charge with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Malcolm Brogdon (15 points), Myles Turner (16 points) and TJ Warren (19 points) also contributed for the Pacers tonight in a losing effort.
The Detroit Piston's next game will be this Wednesday, on the road against the reigning NBA champions Toronto Raptors.
