Dylan Larkin who is now 26, is now in the final year of his five-year, $30.5 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings. Larkin has made it pretty clear that he wants to continue playing for the Red Wings past his current contract, but according to a report from David Pagnotta, there is a ‘sizeable gap’ in contract negotiations between the two sides. There is no question about it that both Larkin and the Red Wings would like to continue their marriage, but for that to happen, they will have to come to an agreement.
Detroit Red Wings, Dylan Larkin ‘far apart’ in contract talks
According to Pagnotta, the Red Wings recently made an offer to Larkin, but it was “not received well.”
From The Fourth Period:
The Red Wings recently presented Larkin’s camp with a new offer – believed to have been presented this week – and it was “not received well,” one source said.
Pagnotta added that the term of the contract is not the hold-up and that it is likely the AAV (Average Annual Value) that is not being agreed upon.
As I explained in our latest edition of Market Rumblings, term is not believed to be the issue as both sides would like to work out a long-term contract, perhaps the max eight-years. It’s not surprise the debate seems to revolve around the dollars.
Nation, do you think Larkin and the Red Wings will come to an agreement?
Larkin shouldn’t be butthurt by this. ~$6MM per isn’t going to be the final offer but let’s not act like Larkin is a 40 goal scorer. Yzerman isn’t going to write Holland-esque contracts!
