Game of the Day: Red Wings defeat Capitals 4-1 to repeat as Cup Champs (VIDEO)

The Detroit Red Wings finished the mission they set out to accomplish following the tragic automobile accident a mere week after raising the Stanley Cup in 1997 – to do it again.

Detroit defeated the Washington Capitals 4-1 in the deciding Game 4 of the 1998 Stanley Cup Finals, winning their second straight championship and later celebrating with their fallen teammate Vladimir Konstantinov on the ice.

Two goals from forward Doug Brown, as well as tallies from Martin Lapointe and Larry Murphy took care of the scoring for Detroit, who got 30 saves from goaltender Chris Osgood.
