It’s been an eye-raising saga since some disturbing allegations were brought against former Detroit Red Wings assistant and current Calgary Flames head coach Bill Peters last week.
Former NHL player Akim Aliu tweeted Monday that Peters directed racial slurs toward him when both were with the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs, the Chicago Blackhawks’ top farm team, in 2009-10. The Flames organization launched an immediate investigation, and Peters was not behind their bench for their November 27th game.
While reports that Peters had been fired by the Flames turned out to be premature, it looks like that indeed may soon be the case. According to NHL Insider Elliott Friedman, the “process is reaching its conclusion” and Peters will soon be be fired by the Flames.
